Weekly Update
What an eventful week we have had!
Thank you to everyone who attended our Internet Safety Parent Event on Wednesday following on from Safety Internet Day. We hope you found the information very useful in this ever-changing society. Mr Cottingham also delivered an assembly to all the children to emphasise the importance of staying safe online.
Nursery had two Parent Stay and Play events on Tuesday which were very well attended – hope you enjoyed sharing your children’s learning.
Our highlight of the week has to be the visit to the National Literacy Trust Book Event where Year 5 were lucky to meet the King and Queen, as well as popular children’s authors (see below).
We look forward to welcoming you all to school next week for Parents Evening where you can find out about the progress your child is making. We will also have our uniform supplier “Lollipops” in attendance if you require anything from them.
After a D and T assembly on Monday, we will also be selling raffle tickets to win some world food hampers.
Have a lovely weekend.
Class Round-Up
Year 4
For our parental engagement afternoon, we invited our parents into school to share our exciting learning about Ancient Egypt. Together, we painted hieroglyphs on real papyrus, just like the ancient Egyptians did, and created scratch art of Egyptian gods, bringing history to life in a creative way. It was wonderful to showcase our knowledge and skills, and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing this special experience with our families. Seeing our parents get involved made the afternoon even more memorable!

Year 5
A once in a lifetime opportunity is what the Year 5 children (and staff) experienced on Thursday. At the event organised by the National Literacy Trust, the children were able to listen to presentations from local author James Harris, Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce as well as authors Nadia Shireen and Jennifer Bell. They spoke about how they developed their ideas for stories and how incidents in their earlier life impacted upon them. Jennifer shared a range of her characters who are based on different emotions within one series of her books and Nadia shared tips on drawing characters from her books, challenging the children to have a go at drawing them.

We were delighted and proud when one of our children was presented with a certificate from Her Majesty Queen Camilla (who is Patron of the National Literacy Trust) for her outstanding reading achievement. It was lovely to hear the Queen speaking about her own love of reading and the work that has been done in Middlesbrough to instil and improve reading across the town.

The next part of our day was to go out into Centre Square where we had the perfect position to welcome the King and Queen as they came out of the Town Hall. The King had conversations with a number of our children and they were in awe of meeting him face to face. Lots of handshakes later and the King left us to continue his walkabout.

The children couldn’t stop talking about their experience saying it was “the best day ever” and how the King had spoken to them about their favourite books drawn on the back of their flags. It certainly was an experience of a lifetime and one that will live with us all for many years to come!
Attendance Matters
It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.
There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 95.7%
Let’s try and get some classes on 100% next week.
If children are arriving late or leaving school early for medical appointments, please make sure that evidence is provided to the school office.

Reminders
*Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner.
*All medicines brought into school, should be brought in through the office where the appropriate paper work will be completed. We only accept medicines that need to be taken more than 3 times a day. Children should not have medicines in their own coats or bags. Many thanks for your support.
*Please remember that children shouldn’t be playing on the P.E. equipment on the playgrounds/field before and after school as there needs to be a member of staff supervising them at all times.
