WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 11th July

Weekly Update ☀️

All the children have experienced transition into their new classes this week, and we hope this has reassured them about the organisation and routines in the next school year.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Reception New Starters meeting on Thursday.  It was lovely to welcome you all to Acklam Whin, and we look forward to your children starting them with us in September.

We had a great turnout for the Nursery Sports Day on Tuesday. We hope you enjoyed seeing your children having lots of fun with the lovely range of activities.

It was a busy week for Year 5 who attended the Middlesbrough Book Bash on Thursday, hearing from authors MJ Leonard, Neil Cameron and Mike Edwards, as well as musician Sara Dennis.  It was a fun packed morning!

A Y5 group also attended the STEM Net Zero event in Darlington on Wednesday and enjoyed the workshops focusing on how local businesses look at their carbon footprint.

On Wednesday, Y3 and Y5 were also lucky to have Music Workshops, led by TVMS.  We also had a fantastic concert on Tuesday afternoon, led by all the children who have had instrument tuition from Music Monsters this year.  We had some amazing piano performances to many familiar songs and stories – a huge well done to everyone who took part and to Sarah and Lauren from Music Monsters.

Have a lovely weekend and try and stay cool!

Class Round-Up

Reception

Reception have been busy exploring a selection of food items that farmers help to grow or make. We matched each food to the animal or plant it came from.
Together, we talked about what we could make using the food items and as a class wrote a menu.
We worked in our teams to make a farmer’s lunch and practised spreading, cutting and chopping the ingredients independently. Afterwards, we enjoyed eating it outside on our picnic blankets.

Nursery

Nursery have had lots of fun learning all about the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears! We shared the story, talked about why it is important to listen to our grown-ups and tasted some yummy porridge. Last Friday we had a fantastic time at our Teddy Bear’s Picnic on the school field (although the rain did unfortunately divert our afternoon picnic inside!) The children still had a lot of fun.
On Tuesday the children demonstrated fantastic hard work and determination at our Nursery Sports Day! The children were amazing, and we are very proud of them.
Thank you to everybody who has attended our recent Nursery events!
On Thursday we went for a walk to our Outdoor Classroom to look for signs of Summer. The children worked really hard; they were able to work together to spot signs in the weather and the environment.
Our N2 Children visited their new Reception teachers this week, and they had a fantastic time. Next week we will be sharing the stories Starting Reception and The Colour Monster Goes to School.
We hope that you enjoy looking at some of our photos!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 96.3% (great again!)

Well done to the 10 classes who got 96% or above – a great achievement.

Let’s keep it up for the final week of term.

Reminders

*We are having a lot of children who are bringing Labubu toys into school which are causing some distractions and children muddling them up.  We would be grateful if these could be left at home to avoid issues occurring.

*Please label all children’s uniform, especially jumpers/cardigans as with the hot weather we have a lot that we have found unnamed and can’t return to its owner.

*On non- P.E. days, children should be wearing full school uniform, including black school shoes.

*Children with pierced ears should only wear a small stud for school and these should be removed for P.E. lessons please.

*Nail varnish should not be worn in school for safety reasons.

We thank you for your support with uniform expectations.

*Please can parents/carers make sure that we have the most up to date information on our system.  If you have moved house or changed your telephone number or email address, please let the office know.

Bring It On Summer activities are attached.  Children on Free School Meals can book up to 16 sessions over the summer holidays.  There are also some paid activities for families who aren’t eligible for FSM. The activities will be gradually added over the coming weeks and links go live on Monday 7th July.
