Weekly Update ☀️

The children have got really involved in their learning this week, digging deeper into their new units of work and settling well into the school routines. The children are also enjoying their new class novels or texts and have enjoyed visiting the library and choosing books to read.

We already have a lot of uniform that has been mislaid and is not named for it to be returned to its owner. We encourage all parents to name their children’s uniform, especially jumpers and cardigans please. There were also a number of lovely coats that were left at the end of term, so please ask if you are missing one.

Could we also ask that children do not ride their bikes or scooters on the school playgrounds at the beginning and end of the day to avoid any accidents to children or parents.

As the weather is very changeable at the moment, we ask that all children bring a coat to school in case of sharp showers or chilly playtimes.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Nursery

In Nursery the children have enjoyed settling back/or into our classroom environment after Summer. We have had lots of fun accessing the indoor and outdoor continuous provision areas and already the children have made lots of friends. We have been very busy ticking important jobs off our list, such as sharing our classroom behaviour expectations and establishing our routine. The children have demonstrated fantastic listening skills. We have some very keen Star of the Day and Tidy Up Award enthusiasts!
This week we have enjoyed reading The Colour Monster and talking about how we feel different emotions. We asked each other the question of ‘how do you feel today?’ and practised using our key vocabulary which included words such as happy and sad. To support our understanding at circle time we used mirrors and picture cards to make different expressions on our faces, we had lots of fun! We have also enjoyed singing and dancing to, If You’re Happy and You Know it.
Next week in Nursery we will be sharing the story Only One You and learning that we are all different and unique.

Reception

It’s certainly been a busy two weeks in Reception as we have welcomed our new children into school. Building relationships and learning new routines have been the focus of our learning and the children have impressed us with their resilience and confidence to tackle new experiences.
Our days have been very busy. We have enjoyed sharing lots of stories to help us understand and talk about our feelings; ‘Whiffy Wilson The Wolf Who Wouldn’t Go To School’ was one of our favourites. Circle times with Jigsaw Jenie have supported us to learn more about our responsibilities around the classrooms and how to help each other.
We have been developing our understanding of directions and our gross and fine motor control to support our early writing skills. Daily activities within our continuous provision including threading, jigsaws, dough and cutting have been very popular. The children have been practising using their knives and forks to eat with and are building their confidence in the lunch hall.
The children have enjoyed exploring our inside and outdoor environment, working alongside the adults and sharing lots of conversations about their play.  The children have made a great start and we are very proud of them!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.  We have had a very positive start to the new term.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 96.4%

A big well done to 410 for getting 100% – a fantastic achievement – as well as Class 206, Class 511, Class 512, Class 613 and Class 614 who all got over 96%. Let’s keep this up and aim for even more classes getting 100%.

Reminders

* Mrs Gallant will be sending an app message regarding medical needs but please inform school if there are any changes to your child’s medical needs over the school year.

*Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this really helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner, and we would encourage all parents to make sure that uniform is named please.

*If you have had any change of address or telephone number over the summer, please could you inform the school office asap.

* If you need to contact your child’s class teacher by email, please send a message to awcontact@acklamwhin.org.uk with FAO name of teacher, and the message will be forwarded to them.

If you are looking for an activity for your young person to do you may wish to consider making use of the interactive Once Upon Online activity. This quick story-based activity which is part of the Digital Matters series lets your child make choices that could be risky in real life so they can learn about the consequences in a safe space. Have them complete this journey on their own or complete it together to talk about your choices. You can access it here Introduction to Online Research free lesson | Digital Matters.
