Weekly Update ☀️

Another busy week in school starting on Monday with a very informative assembly on Anti-Social Behaviour from PC Allinson (our PCSO) for our Year 5 and 6 children.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Year 6 Parental Engagement afternoon on Wednesday where the children made masks as an enrichment to their Ancient Mayan history work.

Year 2 enjoyed a music workshop on Wednesday, led by TVMS and had a super day at Preston Park on Friday.

Our Year 6 boys had a great cricket tournament at Middlesbrough Cricket Club, being proud of their fourth-place finish.

A huge well done to our Year 1 and Year 4 children who have been working very hard towards their Phonics Screening and Multiplication Checks which they completed this week; thank you for doing your very best.

Miss Thomas is leaving us after 25 years at Acklam Whin to pursue a new career working with adults. We would also like to say a huge thank you for all her hard work and dedication supporting our Acklam Whin children across school and we wish her well for the future.

A week on Friday we will have our annual Chocolate Day where the children can come in non-uniform in exchange for bringing in some chocolate or sweets that we can use at the Summer Fayre.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Class Round Up

Enjoy finding out what some of our Key Two classes have been doing in their learning.

Year 4

🍕 Year 4’s Perfect Pizzas – A D&T Day to Remember! 🍕
This week, Year 4 had a deliciously fun time during their Design & Technology lessons as they took part in Pizza Day – a hands-on experience combining creativity, teamwork, and a love for food!
To kick off the day, the children became mini food critics, tasting and evaluating a range of pizza toppings. From juicy sweetcorn to tangy olives and gooey mozzarella, they explored a variety of textures and flavours, thinking carefully about what they liked and why. Some discoveries were surprising – pineapple had more fans than expected!
Armed with their new knowledge, the children moved on to the design stage. Each pupil planned their very own pitta pizza, selecting toppings that not only tasted great but also offered colour, balance, and nutrition. There were some brilliant combinations – and a few brave choices too!
Then came the most exciting part: making and baking their creations. The classroom was filled with the mouth-watering smell of freshly cooked pizza, and the children were so proud to see their designs come to life. From careful cheese sprinkling to neatly arranged peppers, every pizza was unique and made with care.
Well done, Year 4 – you’ve shown brilliant design thinking, fantastic food hygiene, and some very creative pizza skills. Who knew learning could be so tasty?

Nursery

Nursery have absolutely loved learning all about different fruit over the past couple of weeks! 🍎🍇🍍🍌🍓🍊
As a class we have enjoyed learning the different names of each fruit and shared the stories of Handa’s Surprise and Kitchen Disco to support our learning. To start the half term, we were so excited to use our ‘special feely bag’ at circle time. We worked as a team to pass the bag around our circle, using our senses of touch and smell to guess the fruit before revealing its name. Although, the most exciting part was definitely tasting the fruit! We worked together to carefully wash, peel, and chop the fruit in preparation to make some delicious fruit kebabs which we enjoyed at Snack time. After we had tried each fruit, we cut out a photo of our favourite fruit and had a class vote. Our Pictogram confirmed that strawberries were the most popular choice for both Morning and Afternoon Nursery!  🍓
Nursery have enjoyed lots of physical activities, both indoors and outdoors. The children demonstrated fantastic listening skills and perseverance, as we used the Parachute to sing Nursery Rhymes and help the ball travel to the middle of the circle.
Next week we will discuss and sort healthy and unhealthy food choices, ready to design a healthy food plate for the Tiger to eat, from the story The Tiger Who Came to Tea!
We hope you enjoy looking at some of our photos! ☺️

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 94.6%

Slightly better attendance this week but only 4 classes in the green.

Well done to Class 307 who achieved 100%.

This half term we want to aim for more children and classes to achieve 100%.

Each class has now allocated an Attendance Ambassador who are role models for promoting positive attendance in their class.

Reminders

*Please label all children’s uniform, especially jumpers/cardigans as with the hot weather we have a lot that we have found unnamed and can’t return to its owner.

*On non- P.E. days, children should be wearing full school uniform, including black school shoes.

*Children with pierced ears should only wear a small stud for school and these should be removed for P.E. lessons please.

*Nail varnish should not be worn in school for safety reasons.

We thank you for your support with uniform expectations.

*Please can parents/carers make sure that we have the most up to date information on our system.  If you have moved house or changed your telephone number or email address, please let the office know.
