Weekly Update ☀️

We hope that everyone has enjoyed the glorious weather this week and not been too hot! The children have enjoyed playing the wide range of outdoor activities at lunchtimes and playtimes with their friends, made even better in the sunshine!

The children have had a super week, with another visit from our PCSO (PC Allinson), who conducted workshops on online safety for Years One to Six. The sessions were very informative and really made the children think about how to keep themselves safe online.

Our Reception children enjoyed a super day at Big Sheep, Little Cow on Tuesday. They loved seeing all the farm animals.

There was a lovely smell of homemade baking on Wednesday when the Year 3 children made scones as the focus for their Design and Technology unit.

Our Chocolate Day is next Friday. On this day, children can come in non-uniform in exchange for bringing some chocolate or sweet items into school, which we will use at the Summer Fayre (which is on the 2nd of July).

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Sports Report

We’ve had a busy week of school sports at Acklam Whin. 77 Children have represented our school in 3 different athletics events, and over 100 children have attended our school sports clubs!

On Monday, Y1/2 finished as Runners-up in the Middlesbrough Quad Kids Competition, and our Y3/4 children were crowned Middlesbrough Quad Kids CHAMPIONS! Twenty-four schools took part in each competition, an incredible achievement from all our children who attended.

Class Round Up

Enjoy finding out what some of our classes have been doing in their learning.

Reception

Reception were very excited to travel on the bus to spend an exciting day at Big Sheep Little Cow. We met lots of farm animals and learnt lots of information about them. We helped the farmers complete some of their jobs including feeding Gerald the goat and brushing Raffles the pony. We were able to stroke and hold lots of smaller animals including Tommy the tortoise. We asked lots of questions and had a fantastic time experiencing the sights, smells and sounds of an animal farm.
We all enjoyed our packed lunches and had a great time playing in the inside and outside play areas. A particular highlight was our bumpy ride in the barrels pulled by Farmer Duncan on his tractor.

Year 2

Last Friday, Year 2 had our school trip to Preston Park to investigate our topic of Living Things and their Habitats in Science and look for microhabitats. We went on a woodland walk, investigating the different plants and wildlife that live in different habitats. In the afternoon, we walked around the museum and found out lots of interesting things about life in the past. We had a fantastic time and look forward to writing all about it in our Writing lessons next week!
This week, Year 2 has been working incredibly hard on our Year 2 SATs. We are very proud of the children for the effort they have put in. Well done, Year 2!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 93.5%

Well done to the 2 classes who got 96% or above, and to Class 103 for having the best attendance this week.

This half term we want to aim for more classes to be in the green (96% or above).

Each class has now allocated an Attendance Ambassador who are role models for promoting positive attendance in their class.

Reminders

*Please label all children’s uniform, especially jumpers/cardigans as with the hot weather we have a lot that we have found unnamed and can’t return to its owner.

*On non- P.E. days, children should be wearing full school uniform, including black school shoes.

*Children with pierced ears should only wear a small stud for school and these should be removed for P.E. lessons please.

*Nail varnish should not be worn in school for safety reasons.

We thank you for your support with uniform expectations.

*Please can parents/carers make sure that we have the most up to date information on our system.  If you have moved house or changed your telephone number or email address, please let the office know.
