Weekly Update

Another busy week with the Year 3 classes having their Parental Engagement afternoon on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who attended and hope you enjoyed working with your child to enhance their learning on their recent History unit of work on Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

Our meeting for Year 1 parents, to give information on the Phonics Screening Check, was well attended – many thanks to everyone who were able to join us.

The Year 4 children have had a wonderful morning today at the Darlington Hippodrome watching Horrible Histories and having a real treat as they come to the end of their Ancient Egypt topic. They also had a great music workshop on Tuesday which was based around the theme of the Ancient Egyptians.

Our Reception children had a lovely spring walk on Wednesday, being able to see a lot of the signs of spring with lovely weather for their trip out.

A sad farewell…We would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Laughton who is leaving today.  Mr Laughton has been our Site Manager for 26 years and is a valued member of the Acklam Whin community. Mr Laughton is off to explore pastures new.  We want to thank Mr Laughton for all his hard work and contributions over the years to both our students and staff and the wider community. I am sure you will join me in wishing Mr Laughton all the very best from everyone at Acklam Whin.

We would like to wish all our community a happy Eid Mubarak as they celebrate next week.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Class Round-Up

Nursery 🦆

Nursery have had a super busy half-term so far! A couple of weeks ago we learnt about the Lifecycle of a Duck, we enjoyed observing our very own real-life eggs and did a fantastic job taking care of our hatched ducklings Pippa and Parker, before sending them back to the farm. We chose what the ducklings would be called by a class vote!

In Nursery we have enjoyed lots of shared stories including Specs for Rex and Sharing a Shell, to support our learning about how we are all unique and different and how we can be a kind friend. This week we have demonstrated fantastic teamwork to create a colourful patchwork Elmer collage which you might spot displayed in our classroom Floor Books! In small groups we talked about our similarities and differences, recognising that we are all special.

Last week, we hosted our regular Parent Session, it was so lovely to see so many grown-ups attend our Stay and Sing! We hope that you had a brilliant time and look forward to seeing you at our Parent Easter Craft session on 3rd April.

We hope that you enjoy looking at some of our photos. 😊

Reception 💐

pring is in the air for Reception!
The children went on a walk to look for signs of Spring around our school and in the local area.  We used a spotting sheet to mark off what we saw and took photographs.  We worked hard to use our observation skills, spotting lots of signs of spring including daffodils, bird nests and blossom on the trees.
We have been busy making some wonderful pictures of Spring flowers.
Reception have been checking the weather forecast to find out about typical Spring weather and watching the Spring bulbs that we planted together in September grow.
Reception are so excited to have been given some frog spawn to look after in our classroom.  We have put it in a tank to observe how it changes and will learn lots of new information about the life cycle of a frog over the coming weeks.

Year 4 🎭

Today, Year 4 had an unforgettable trip to the Darlington Hippodrome to watch Horrible Histories: Awful Egyptians! As part of our history topic, we experienced the gruesome and fascinating world of Ancient Egypt brought to life on stage. We loved learning about Ramses II’s life, discovering the secrets of mummification, and taking a thrilling 3D tour of Tutankhamun’s tomb. Wearing our 3D glasses, we felt like we were really stepping into the tomb—until a giant 3D snake lunged towards us! Many of us jumped in our seats, but it only made the experience even more exciting.

It was a fantastic morning, full of fun, facts, and a few frights! We can’t wait for our next adventure into the past.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see our children in school every day, as missed days mean missed learning.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall  97.3% (Brilliant again!)

There were 12 classes that got 96% or above this week, which is great news. Well done to Classes 205 and 308, who shared our attendance trophy this week.

Let’s aim for more classes and for children to achieve 100% this half term.

Reminders

*Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner.

*All medicines brought into school, should be brought in through the office where the appropriate paper work will be completed. We only accept medicines that need to be taken more than 3 times a day. Children should not have medicines in their own coats or bags.  Many thanks for your support.

*Please remember that children shouldn’t be playing on the P.E. equipment on the playgrounds/field before and after school as there needs to be a member of staff supervising them at all times.
