Weekly Update ☀️

What a wonderful day we had yesterday at the Summer Fayre! Thank you so much for ALL support with donations and attending the event.  The great British weather was certainly on our side, and we hope you all had a lovely time. Over £2300 was made for school funds which is fantastic.

We have enjoyed welcoming some of the new children joining Acklam Whin to Reception this week, and it was lovely to meet you all. Our current Nursery children will have some time in Reception next Wednesday and children in other year groups will have some time in their new class and with their new teacher on Tuesday morning. We hope that our Year 6 children have an enjoyable and reassuring visit to their new secondary schools next week too.

Have a lovely weekend.

Class Round-Up

Year Four

This week has been packed with excitement and achievements in Year 4! Some of our fantastic footballers headed to Middlesbrough Sports Village to take part in a football tournament. We were incredibly proud of their efforts—our boys’ team brought home a gold medal, and our girls’ team won silver! The girls showed amazing resilience, even battling through the rain on Wednesday.

Back in class, we’ve started our final art pieces, exploring glue batik techniques with brilliant creativity. We’ve also been captivated by the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, beautifully narrated by Stephen Fry—it’s made our afternoons extra magical! And to top it all off, we’ve been busy making chocolate apples for the school fayre, which has been a sticky but deliciously fun activity.

Well done to everyone for a fantastic week!

Year Five

Last Wednesday, a group of Year 5 children visited Acklam Grange school for a maths morning. They were involved in a range of maths activities which really challenged their thinking and encouraged them to work as a team. It was lovely to be at an event with other Trust schools.

Our Poetry Slam finalists took part in the Middlesbrough Literacy Trust competition at the Town Hall. They performed their own amazing poems based on Identity. We were so proud of how they performed with confidence and passion, and they should all be very proud of themselves.

Our current writing unit is composing a Persuasive Speech. Our theme is whether children should have a three-day weekend, and this has provoked some interesting debate and strong views being shared.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 96.2% (much better)

Great attendance this week – well done everyone.

9 classes got 96% or above and a big well done to Class RO2 and Class 409 who shared the attendance trophy this week.

Reminders

*Please label all children’s uniform, especially jumpers/cardigans as with the hot weather we have a lot that we have found unnamed and can’t return to its owner.

*On non- P.E. days, children should be wearing full school uniform, including black school shoes.

*Children with pierced ears should only wear a small stud for school and these should be removed for P.E. lessons please.

*Nail varnish should not be worn in school for safety reasons.

We thank you for your support with uniform expectations.

*Please can parents/carers make sure that we have the most up to date information on our system.  If you have moved house or changed your telephone number or email address, please let the office know.

The activities will be gradually added over the coming weeks and links go live on Monday 7th July.
