Weekly Update
It was lovely to open up our library this week to our Reception parents and children for the first of our Library Drop-In sessions. The children enjoyed sharing books and talking about why they liked it. A different year group each week will be invited, so please see dates on the list below. Year 4 had a wonderful time listening to Cressida Cowell at Yarm Auditorium on Wednesday. They loved hearing all about her work and talking about her new book. On Thursday and Friday, Mr Jackson took Y6 children to Tag Rugby competitions, and some great matches were played. We welcomed Beth from The Junction into school on Friday to do an assembly to promote Mental Health Day. She talked about a range of strategies that we can all use to promote a healthy mind. Next Friday, we invite children to wear something red for the day to celebrate Show Racism the Red Card. We will also be talking about this important message in assemblies and lesson.
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
Class Round-Up
Year 6
Year 6 had a fabulous time during their recent visit to one of the Robinwood activity centres at Barhaugh Hall, Alston.
During the three day trip, they managed to take part in an amazing 14 activities: Crate Challenge, Zip Wire, Quest, Giant Swing, Caving, Trapeze, Raft Building, and many more. They conquered their fears; built resilience; worked brilliantly as a team, supporting each other and cheering everyone on; and faced many tough challenges, head on. We couldn’t be any prouder of them all. We were really lucky with our weather and enjoyed our time outdoors, getting lots of fresh air in the sunshine.

Year 4
Year 4 were lucky enough to be invited to the Princess Alexandria Auditorium at Yarm School to listen to the best-selling author of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ series, Cressida Cowell. She shared her journey to becoming an author and what inspired her. She told us how she would write stories whilst on holidays in Sussex each year in a cottage without electricity. The children also had the opportunity to buy one of her many books, and she signed them for us all, too! We had a fantastic afternoon out, which certainly inspired our Years 4s to read many genres of books. They can’t wait to read her new book series, Which Way to Anywhere.

Attendance Matters
It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning. We have had a very positive start to the new term.
There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 94.8%
Well done to the 7 classes who got 96% or above.
If children are arriving late or leaving school early for medical appointments, please make sure that evidence is provided to the school office.

*With the unpredictable weather, please can the children bring a coat to school each day, so they are prepared for all eventualities.
*Please remember that children shouldn’t be playing on the P.E. equipment on the playgrounds/field before and after school as there needs to be a member of staff supervising them at all times.
