Weekly Update ☀️
Class Round Up
Enjoy finding out what some of our Key Two classes have been doing in their learning.
Year 5
Just before half term, the children took part in a Poetry Slam led by local poet Bob Beagrie. The theme for the slam was ‘Our Identity’ and over the course of the morning, the children worked hard to develop ideas around how they could describe the places and wondrous things their hands and feet have experienced. They then considered their emotions and feelings before working as a team to produce a poem. During the afternoon, the children worked together to practise and develop actions before performing their poems to the rest of the year group. Each group was scored, and the winning two groups will now go on to perform at Middlesbrough Town Hall later this month against other Middlesbrough schools. Well done to all the children and good luck to the winning teams.

On Wednesday, Class 511 walked all around Acklam identifying recreational land use in our local area as part of our current geography topic. We spotted the beautiful grounds of Acklam Hall, Acklam Park, the library and many places which provide opportunities to take part in sports. We were glad of the sunshine and enjoyed being outdoors for the afternoon. Next week, we will explore how we can improve our local area using what we discovered during our fieldwork and through analysis of parent questionnaires. Class 512 will also be going on their Fieldwork next week.

As part of our science work, the children learnt about the reproduction of a flowering plant; this involved dissecting some tulips, so they could look closely at the different parts as well as recording the pollination process. There was great collaboration and teamwork.

Attendance Matters
It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.
There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 91.3%
Well done to Class 410 who was the only class at 96% or above.
We want to get lots more classes in the green again next week.

Morning PE Club gives children in Y2-Y6 the opportunity to attend a weekly PE club. Children must access this club via the main hall doors (not via the playground) at 8.25am on their set day. Latest drop off time is 8:30am. This club is optional and will run throughout the school year.
Reminders
*Please label all children’s uniform, especially jumpers/cardigans as with the hot weather we have a lot that we have found unnamed and can’t return to its owner.
*On non- P.E. days, children should be wearing full school uniform, including black school shoes.
*Children with pierced ears should only wear a small stud for school and these should be removed for P.E. lessons please.
*Nail varnish should not be worn in school for safety reasons.
We thank you for your support with uniform expectations.
*Please can parents/carers make sure that we have the most up to date information on our system. If you have moved house or changed your telephone number or email address, please let the office know.
