Weekly Update

It has been lovely to see our parents in the academy this week for the Year 2 Enrichment afternoon and for the Year 1 Drop-In Library session. Thank you so much to everyone who attended; the children loved having you in to share their learning.

Our assembly themes this week have been centred around Anti-Bullying Week which begins on Monday. The theme this year is Choose Respect and we discussed what this meant and how we can all make the correct choices. On Tuesday, we will celebrate Odd Socks Day where children can come in odd socks to celebrate their individuality.

We also discussed Remembrance in preparation for Remembrance Sunday and the significance of the poppy. We have a group of Year 6 children attending the service at Acklam Grange on Monday, and it will be really poignant to experience this event with our secondary partners.

Next week, we welcome Year 5 parents to the Library Drop-In on Thursday after school as well as looking forward to Children in Need on Friday. We are suggesting the children come in bright clothes or Pudsey themed items for a donation to celebrate this worthy cause.

We will also have our annual Book Fair in school which will be available each night after school (please come in via the main entrance).

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Class Round-Up

Year 1

Year 1 have had a busy first week back after half term. We have started several new topics in our different subjects including Science where we are looking at everyday materials. We began by identifying different materials around school on a material hunt.
In History, we are starting to talk about toys from the past. We look forward to sharing photos of ourselves with our favourite toys and toys we enjoyed as babies.
We also enjoyed having our adults in with us during our Library session this week. It was so lovely to share our wonderful Library with them and we hope we can have them again very soon.

Year 2

Year 2 have had a great week back after half term. On Wednesday, we had our Parental Engagement afternoon, and we completed art and craft activities centred around Remembrance Day. The children had a lovely time and loved seeing their adults in school! They will wear their poppies in school on Monday. We had a fantastic turnout – thank you to everybody who came!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.  We have had a very positive start during Autumn 1.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 97.1%

A big well done to the 13 classes who got 96% or above and huge congratulations to Class 409 for getting 100%. Fantastic and keep it up!

Let’s get even

If children are arriving late or leaving school early for medical appointments, please make sure that evidence is provided to the school office.

Reminders

*Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner.

*If you have had any change of address or telephone number over the summer, please could you inform the school office asap.

*With the unpredictable weather, please can the children bring a coat to school each day, so they are prepared for all eventualities.

*Please remember that children shouldn’t be playing on the P.E. equipment on the playgrounds/field before and after school as there needs to be a member of staff supervising them at all times.
