WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 3rd October

Weekly Update ☀️

Our Year 6 children and staff have had a fantastic week at Robin Wood in Alston.  They loved the range of activities and the experience of being on a residential together. We are glad to have them back home before the stormy weather that is due.

Our Year 4 children had an Escape Room experience, led by representatives from Northern Gas, focusing on the path to Net Zero and sustainable energy.

Next Friday, we will be holding our Harvest Festival, and we will be collecting items that will be donated to the local Food Bank. Many thanks in anticipation for any further donations.

We look forward to welcoming our Nursery parents and carers into school on Tuesday for the Stay and Sing events.

Have a lovely weekend (and stay safe in the storm)

Class Round Up

Year 3

Year 3 Blog – A great start!
Our Year 3 children have settled into the new school year really well and it has been lovely to see their enthusiasm and positive attitude to learning.
One of the highlights this term has been the start of our French lessons.  The children have been busy locating France on a map and discovering other countries around the world where French is spoken.  They were fascinated to learn just how widely the language is used!
In art this week, we were looking at robot art. We looked at pictures by Eric Joyner and loved the bright colours he used. We learnt that he always puts a donought in his pictures!
In science, we learnt about how our muscles help our bodies to move. We used string and straws to make a paper hand bend.

Year 4

This afternoon we had an exciting workshop with Northern Gas all about Net Zero.

In teams, we worked together to solve clues, crack codes and open locks until we finally managed to rescue the polar bear! It tested our problem-solving skills and showed us how well we can work when we support each other.

As we played, we also learned some important facts about energy. We found out how fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas can harm the environment, and why it’s so important to move towards renewable energy such as wind, solar and water power. These cleaner sources of energy are better for the planet and help fight climate change.

We all came away with a better understanding of what Net Zero means and how we can make small changes to protect our world. It was a brilliant afternoon of teamwork, learning and fun!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.  We have had a very positive start to the new term.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 96.4%

A big well done to 613 for winning the attendance trophy and to the other 8 classes for getting over 96%. Let’s keep this up and aim for even more classes getting in the green!

Reminders

*Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this really helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner, and we would encourage all parents to make sure that uniform is named please.
