Weekly Update

What a busy week in school with the first of our Parental Partnership afternoons on Wednesday where we welcomed our Year 5 family members to undertake crafts linked to their history topic of Ancient Greece.

There was also a great turnout for the Reception Library Drop-In session on Thursday. Mr Armstrong read the new Julia Donaldson book – Gruffalo Granny – which children and adults alike enjoyed!

Thank you for all the donations to our Harvest Festival – we welcomed Reverend Wild to lead our assembly which included some of our favourite Harvest songs, an engaging story and speaking about the journey of a loaf of bread and other foods. The donations have been collected by the Foodbank today.

Great sports success again this week with the Y5/6 boys being crowned Middlesbrough T1 Rugby Champions on Tuesday and the Y5/6 girls coming in as worthy runners up.  Well done to everyone who took part and represented our school so well.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to our Parent Consultations next week, and we hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Class Round Up

Enjoy finding out what our Upper Key Stage 2 classes have been doing in their learning.

Year 5

On Wednesday, we were joined by our family members in the hall to share and extend our learning about our current history topic, Ancient Greece. With our adults, we created pictures of Greek architecture using art straws; made laurel wreaths from card; drew mythological creatures whilst playing a game; and drew pottery designs inspired by Ancient Greek artefacts. It was a very busy afternoon and the children loved sharing their learning and interacting with adults and their peers alike.

Last Friday, we had a great Forest School session with Mr Armstrong.  He discussed the need for shelter when outdoors and we worked together to build a shelter using the knowledge that a triangle is the strongest shape. There was great teamwork and everyone fitted under our finished shelter before we experimented with the tarpaulin cover.

We are now well into our Design and Technology project which is making Greek Flatbreads. Today, we did lots of taste testing of the different foods that could flavour our bread. From olives to feta, anchovies to pomegranate, the children were very positive to try some new foods. They then designed what they wanted in their finished products – we can’t wait to make them next week.

Year 6

Year 6 had a fantastic start to the week, embarking on a reconnaissance mission in our WW2 Reading Café! Their task was to gather intelligence from as many ‘field reports’ as possible. Moving between tables, the children uncovered fascinating facts about the war and discovered more about what life was like during this significant period in history. Once their mission was complete, they shared their ‘Wow’ moments with the rest of the team, reporting back on their most interesting discoveries. It was a fantastic way to bring their WW2 learning to life while developing their historical knowledge, reading skills and teamwork.
There is so much exciting learning taking place around our WW2 topic at the moment. The children are incredibly excited about their visit to Eden Camp on Wednesday where they will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of life during wartime and experience history coming to life. They are also looking forward to our WW2 parental engagement afternoon, where they will work alongside their families to create their very own Anderson shelters. We cannot wait to see their fantastic designs come to life!
It is wonderful to see such engaged, enthusiastic learners who are so eager to explore the past and deepen their understanding of this important period in history. What an exciting week of learning Year 6 have ahead!

Attendance

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

Overall 92%

A poor week for attendance this week with lots of children being affected by illness.  Only 4 classes at 96% or above; let’s try and improve this for the last week of this half term.

Reminders

  • Reminders
    • If you would like to discuss anything related to your child, we ask that you speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

If you require a further discussion please contact phase leaders: Miss Mills for EYFS, Mrs Ingledew for KS1 and Mrs Wilson for KS2.

Mrs Prince and Miss Tarran are also available on the gates each morning and can support with any unresolved issues.

Our office staff will always be able answer organisational queries too.

We would always recommend that you come and speak to staff if you have any worries or concerns, so they can be resolved as soon as possible.

    • Mrs Gallant is updating our medical records; please can you get in touch asap if your child has a new medical condition or there are any changes to their current condition.
    • Due to new lunchtime arrangements, please can you make sure that children have a drink in their packed lunches as they are unable to go back to their classrooms for their class water bottles. Children have access to tap water in the lunch hall if they wish to have some.
    • Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this really helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner, and we would encourage all parents to make sure that uniform is named please.
    • Please can we remind all children and parents that bikes and scooters should not be ridden on the school playground. Please jump off your vehicle and push it along to avoid any accidents.
