WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 26th January 2024

Weekly Update

After a very stormy week, we have still managed to have lots of outdoor P.E. lessons and fresh air at playtimes.

Our assemblies are focusing on revisiting our Acklam Whin Core Values, and, this week, we covered Curious and Independence. This is allowing time for the children to reflect on what these values actually mean within their day-to-day actions.

Next week, to celebrate National Storytelling Week, watch out for daily stories read by members of staff for the children to watch at home.  Notifications will come via the app.

Nursery

In Nursery, we have been looking for signs of winter. We have loved making winter artwork and bird feeders for our nursery garden.

Our older nursery children have started their weekly visits to the school library. They have loved sharing books with friends and picking a book to take home.

We are now learning about people who help us in our local community and have some exciting visitors coming into nursery over the next couple of weeks! Watch this space!

Reception

We made bird feeders to help the birds during the cold winter months. We visited the outdoor classroom to collect sticks for our feeders and the children demonstrated super cutting skills to prepare the ingredients to make their bird cakes. The children have already been sending in photographs of the wildlife visiting their bird feeders at home.

We have sung 5 Speckled Frogs, and we built towers in maths to help us develop our understanding of composition to 5.

In PE, we have practised our bat and ball skills; we concentrated and worked hard to keep our ball under control using small touches. We have also been very lucky to work with Mrs McNab across the half term to develop our fundamental skills.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning. We want all children to aim for 96% or more attendance.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall: 95%

This term we want to aim for more children and classes achieving 96% or more (green). We will keep you updated each week. We know you can do it!
