WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 29th April 2024

Weekly Update

This week, our assembly themes have focused on St George’s Day and raising awareness about the Patron Saint of England as well as the value of Perseverance which we all need when completing many tasks, especially those that challenge us.

Our after-school clubs continue to be very well attended and the children are enjoying the range of opportunities offered.

Fingers crossed that next week we see a change in this chilly weather so we can use our field and outdoor spaces more consistently!

Class Round Up

Enjoy finding out what some of our KS2 classes have been doing in their learning…

Year Three

We made Bell Beaker pottery in our art session which links to our Stone Age to Iron Age history unit. The children loved how creative the Bronze Age was and have really enjoyed finding out about the Beaker people and how special their pottery was to them.

Year Five

Year 5 have had a lovely start to the summer term. They have been lucky enough to take part in cricket sessions from North Yorkshire Cricket. They have loved their taster sessions and they have worked on their teamwork, fielding and batting skills. They have also developed skills in communication, leadership and resilience.

Next week, year 5 are visiting the Life Centre in Newcastle as part of their science Space learning. They are incredibly excited!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall  94.9%

Well done to Class 512 for having the best attendance this week.

This half term we want to aim for more children and classes to achieve 96% or more (green).

Just a reminder that school cannot authorise holidays in term time except in exceptional circumstances.

HeadStart

This edition they have some fantastic content from  the team about staff wellbeing and support for students during their SAT’s week.

During SAT’s week it is also Mental Health Awareness Week (13th May) hosted by the Mental Health Foundation who have some fantastic resources to start you off sharing this year’s theme around Movement.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 will take place from 13 to 19 May, on the theme of “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”.

Movement is important for our mental health. But so many of us struggle to move enough. We know there are many different reasons for this, so this Mental Health Awareness Week we want to help people to find moments for movement in their daily routines. Going for a walk in your neighbourhood, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!
