WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 19th April 2024

Weekly Update

On Wednesday, the Year 4 and 5 children had thought provoking and informative workshops delivered by members of “Show Racism the Red Card” team. This allowed them to think carefully about scenarios and situations and the appropriate responses to these.

Despite the changeable weather, we have eventually got onto the field for P.E., play and lunchtimes after a long and wet winter! The children have loved this extra space to undertake a wider range of activities.  Mr Jackson also gave out some new equipment boxes for us to use during playtimes; each class has a challenge to maintain their boxes for all the class to enjoy.

Keep a lookout on the app for additional messages linked to year group activities.

Class Round Up

Enjoy finding out what our Key Stage One team have been doing in their learning…

Year One

Our half term has got off to a busy start.

We began with our D&T project where we looked at wheels and axels around school including the electric go-cart. Then we made our own models of a locomotive based on George Stephenson’s “Rocket”

We have also been in the outdoor classroom learning how to tie a reef knot.

In maths we have been learning how to measure length, height, mass and capacity.

Year Two

We’ve had a busy start to the summer term in Year 2!

Last week, we became “Millilitre Magicians” and made magic potions by measuring out different volumes.

This week, we’re very excited to have started our new History topic all about how hospitals have changed over time. We started with a timeline of Florence Nightingale’s life.

Finally, we’ve kicked off the summer term by showing our love of books! Class 6 have been recommending their favourite books during Book Club, and Class 5 have started a new class read: George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl! We’ve been loving it so far!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall  95.9%

Well done to Year 1 and Class 409 for having the best attendance this week.

This half term we want to aim for more children and classes to achieve 96% or more (green).

Just a reminder that school cannot authorise holidays in term time except in exceptional circumstances.
