WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 2nd February 2024

Weekly Update

The week started with Year 4 having a very informative workshop to enhance their history work on The Egyptians. The children had a hands-on experience of mummifying a body; they wrote their names in Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics on authentic papyrus paper. We played a range of traditional Egyptian games and handled a wide range of artefacts.

Our Year 5 and 6 children had a great morning at the Basketball tournament on Wednesday. The teams brought back gold and silver medals – well done to everyone who took part.

Nursery have enjoyed exciting visits from the Police Dogs and Fire Brigade and learned lots about the job of these important people who help us.

We were so proud of our Head Starters today, who received their Silver awards today in assembly, presented by James, who has been working with the children over the autumn term. We are so proud of the maturity and enthusiasm of the whole group.

We hope you enjoyed the stories we have sent home this week as part of National Storytelling Week.

Class Round Up

Enjoy learning what our Key Stage One Team has been doing in their learning…

Year 1

In music, Year 1 has been learning about pulse, and they listened to Ricky Martin’s Livin La Vida Loca. They also continued to learn their song ” Round and Round ” along with some actions.

In Science, our animal toys visited us from home. We categorised them into their animal groups, looked at their characteristics, and even fed them depending on whether they were carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores.

We have also enjoyed our class texts: “The Koala Who Could” and “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”, and we did some fantastic story maps as a class.

Year 2

Year 2 has been very busy over the last few weeks! Last Wednesday, we made bird feeders and participated in the Big Garden Birdwatch, where we noted the different birds we could see around the Acklam Whin site!

This week, as part of our History topic, we learned all about the history of Acklam Whin. We walked around the school to see how the buildings look now compared to the photos we had studied in class.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day, as missed days mean missed learning. We want all children to aim for 96% or more attendance.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

This term, we want more children and classes to achieve 96% or more (green). We will keep you updated each week.

We know you can do it!

Measles update

The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is one of the routine childhood vaccinations, so most children are already vaccinated against measles. If your child has received both doses of the vaccine, they are unlikely to have the virus. Here, we explain everything you need to know about the rise in measles cases, …
