Weekly Update

We hope everyone enjoyed the half term break and are ready for another short half term in the run up to Easter.

There is lots to fit in over five weeks including World Book Day and Red Nose Day (watch out for separate App messages about these).

Our School Council met this week and have been discussing new systems on recycling that we are starting across school; we are proud of the ideas they bring and how they express themselves in the meetings.  Our HeadStarters have also put up some new posters on Resilience and Wellbeing to support all children in school.

Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about forces in their Science lessons. They particularly enjoyed studying the effect of gravity on themselves, paint, and water. They also investigated friction, water resistance and air resistance.

In STEM Club, we designed and created a variety of glider planes, then tested our planes for distance and travel time.

Year 6

Before the half-term break, Year 6 had the privilege of being invited to Acklam Grange to watch their fabulous performance of Matilda the Musical. We had a great time and really enjoyed watching some of our past Acklam Whin students performing in the show.

We have ended this week with an afternoon in our amazing outdoor classroom where we have been thinking about ‘What humans need to survive’.  To top this off, we made – and devoured – some s’mores. This was a tasty, well-earned treat after a week of hard work.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day, as any missed days means missed learning.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

This term, we want more children and classes to achieve 96% or more (green). We will keep you updated each week.

We know you can do it!

Measles update

Cases of measles are rising across England, including among children. It’s an infection that spreads very easily and for some people can cause serious problems. There’s no specific medical treatment for measles, so it’s important to get vaccinated as it’s the best protection against becoming seriously unwell. The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is one of the routine childhood vaccinations, so most children are already vaccinated against measles. If your child has received both doses of the vaccine, they are unlikely to have the virus. Here, we explain everything you need to know about the rise in measles cases, …

Reminders

Please can we remind everyone that P.E. shoes should be black or white and only worn on days when the class has P.E. Many thanks for your support with this matter.
