WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 12th April 2024

Weekly Update

We have certainly had some blustery April showers this week, but the children have got out and enjoyed our outdoor spaces, including the Outdoor Classroom which has lots of new plants.

This week, we have welcomed Mrs Barwell to Acklam Whin who is our new business manager. I am sure lots of you will get to meet Mrs Barwell when you visit the front office, and everyone is certainly making her feel welcome.

On Thursday, a number of classes had a cricket taster session where we had a coach in school who gave them a refresher on rules and strategies to play the game before the summer season.

In assembly today, we were able to give out 167 certificates to children across school who achieved 100% attendance in the spring term! A huge well done to all these children and others who improved their attendance. Keep this up and we look forward to awarding lots more getting certificates in the summer term.

We have many activities planned over the coming weeks so please look out for app messages from class teachers for updates.

Class Round-Up

Enjoy finding out what our EYFS team have been doing in their learning…

Nursery

Before the Easter break afternoon nursery had a fabulous time exploring the outdoor classroom with Mr Armstrong.  We had fun playing games, eating cakes, listening to a story and we even watched Mr Armstrong making a fire.

We have settled back into Nursery and have had a very busy week.  We have enjoyed some outdoor play (when the rain stopped!) We have enjoyed dough disco and squiggle while you wiggle to help develop our fine motor skills and we have been very creative by designing and making our own box models. We love using glue and exploring different materials to decorate our boxes.

Reception

This week in Reception we have been learning all about the lifecycle of a frog. In class we have read lots of fiction and non-fiction books about frogs to help us learn new information and develop our vocabulary. Some of our favourite books have been One Little Frog and Growing Frogs as they have helped us to learn new facts including what frogs eat and where they live.

We are taking good care of our frogspawn and are amazed by how many tadpoles we already have in our tank; they must be enjoying eating their broccoli! Every day, we look very carefully to see how they are growing and changing. In the upcoming weeks, once they have grown a little bit bigger, we will be releasing them into the pond in our outdoor classroom.

In our provision areas we have enjoyed lots of frog themed activities: we hope you enjoy looking at our work so far.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall  93.7%

Well done to Class 104 for having the best attendance this week.

This half term we want to aim for more children and classes to achieve 96% or more (green).

Just a reminder that school cannot authorise holidays in term time except in exceptional circumstances.
