Weekly Update

This week 46 of our pupils from Y3,5 and 6 represented Acklam Whin at P.E. events. The events were Y5/6 Cricket, Y3 Dance and Y3 Dodgeball. Over 70% of pupils from KS2 have now represented our school so far during this academic year with many more events to come later in the Spring and Summer terms.

These PE events were part of our Acklam Sports Partnership, and we were proud of the contributions made my everyone who took part.

In assemblies, this week, we have focused on two more of our Acklam Whin Core Values around being positive and aspirational. The latter linked very smoothly into National Careers Week which is celebrated next week.

Our Year 1 children also thoroughly enjoyed their Head of Steam workshop which was undertaken by staff from the Darlington Brick Train Sculpture.

We look forward to the Scholastic Book Fair being in school next week leading up to World Book Day on Thursday.  The children will have brought home their £1 voucher which they can use to buy one of the set World Book Day books or to use towards another book of choice.

Class Round-Up

Enjoy finding out what our Early Years Team have been doing in their learning…

Nursery

Nursery have been very busy over the last half term learning about people who help us. We have had some very special visits and learned about different jobs. We have loved playing in our role play areas and dressing up as police officers and doctors.

We loved meeting PC Walker and his dogs Sabre and Benji. They are very well trained and have a very good sense of smell. The Fire Brigade came to visit us and they brought their fire engine. We listened to the loud siren and had a turn using the big hose.We met Nurse Jen who came to tell us all about how she cares for people. We have enjoyed playing in our doctor’s role play area and taking care of each other.

We finished the topic with a stay and sing session with our parents and carers. It was lovely to sing some of our favourite nursery rhymes while having a cuddle from our grown-ups who all joined in too. Milk and biscuits were a delicious treat to finish the session.

Reception

In Reception we have had lots of fun learning all about Australia! We have located England and Australia on a World Map, compared the weather and shared lots of interesting facts about Australian animals and their habitats.  The children enjoyed creating their very own Sydney Opera House in our Continuous Provision too! In Sounds-Write the children have continued to work super hard; we have practised reading and writing words with CCVCC and CCCVC structures. In Music the children loved performing with their friends as the audience; our song this week was Incy Wincy Spider.

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day, as any missed days means missed learning.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

                                                                          Overall  94.7%

Well done to Classes 308, 409, 410 and 613 for having the best attendance this week.
