WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 8th March 2024

Weekly Update

What a great celebration of the love of reading we have had this week with the Scholastic Book Fair and World Book Day on Thursday.  The children really enjoyed sharing their favourite book, and I am sure many children were inspired by some different authors or genres.

Friday was a busy day with girls from Years 2 to 6 participating in a Football Festival at Kader School to mark International Women’s Day.  Over 100 girls from Acklam Whin thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in the matches and represent their school, and we thank Kader for hosting and Mr Jackson for organising the event.

We look forward to welcoming parents and carers into school next week for Parents Evening where you can get an update on your child’s progress.  If you haven’t made an appointment, please go on the app to make one.

Friday is a non-uniform day for Red Nose Day, and we invite the children to bring in a small donation towards this popular charity.

Class Round Up

Enjoy finding out what our Key Stage One Team have been doing in their learning…

Year 1

Last week, Year 1 had a visitor from Hopetown Museum in Darlington (used to be Head of Steam) to talk to us about George Stephenson and The Stockton to Darlington Railway. Our visitor brought in artefacts, shared information and showed us photographs and drawings of the first steam engines to support our history topic.

For World Book Day, we shared our books from home and found clues around the classroom to solve the mystery books as well as reading lots of stories too!

Year 2

Y2 have been very busy over the past two weeks!

Last Friday, as part of our Geography topic, we went on a walk to answer some questions we had about our local area. We ended up walking over 2 miles!

This week, to celebrate World Book Day, we did lots of fun activities. We brought in our favourite books and enjoyed sharing them with other members of our class. In the afternoon, we read to teddies, helped sort our reading books into different genres, and enjoyed a story while having some snacks and juice!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day, as any missed days means missed learning.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

This is our best attendance week this term – well done, especially to Class 104 and Class 308, who achieved 100% attendance.

Keep up the good work everyone – we know you can do it!

Early Years Funded Childcare Parental Consultation

We have been asked to promote the following survey:

https://arcg.is/1ayfze0

Every Local Authority has a duty to ensure there is enough childcare in their area to meet parental demand.  This consultation will provide vital information to ensure that Middlesbrough has sufficient childcare options in place to be able to deliver the additional funded hours of childcare from April 2024.

This consultation should be completed by parents/carers of children aged 2 years and under, expectant mothers, and those considering becoming a parent. The wraparound questions should be completed by parents/carers of primary aged children.

The survey is now live and scheduled to close at midnight on 5th April.
