WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 15th March 2024

Weekly Update

It was another busy week in school. All classes undertook activities for British Science Week, culminating in an assembly on Friday led by Miss Edwards and Miss Appleby. Thank you to all the children who entered the poster competition on the theme of Time; we loved celebrating the year group winners in assembly.

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended parent’s evenings this week. It was lovely to see you all in school and share your child’s learning and progress. We were so proud of our Year 6 Acklam Whinners, who supported the running of the evenings.

We look forward to seeing the Y1 parents/carers at their meeting on Monday and the Y6 parents/carers for their SATs meeting on Thursday.

Members of Year 5 have taken part in Netball and Tri-Golf competitions, and Year 4 attended a Tag Rugby event on Friday. Well done to everyone who took part in these sporting events and represented their school.

Thank you for all the donations sent in to support Red Nose Day – the children have enjoyed having a non-uniform day and remembering this important charity.

We look forward to seeing the children’s decorated egg entries next week. Raffle tickets will also be available from Monday for our Easter raffle.

Have a lovely weekend.

Class Round-Up

Year 3

We have been working tremendously hard to create powerful, descriptive sentences about a volcanic eruption. We have learned lots of new vocabulary and used these to create some really creative multisensory descriptions. We have explored different images and videos to help create a visual image for the reader. This is an absolutely fabulous effort, and the ideas are just wonderful!

For Science week, we designed different aeroplanes and tested how long they stayed in the air as part of the ‘time’ theme.

Year 4

Last week, on World Book Day, Year 4 enjoyed a range of activities to encourage a love for reading. They took part in a live lesson, read a variety of different books in our Year 4 Reading Cafe, shared their favourite stories which they had brought from home, and used a new app on the iPads to share their genre preferences. Fantasy stories and books that make us laugh were firm favourites!
This week, we had lots of fun participating in Science Week, where the theme was ‘time’. On Thursday, we worked in teams to make paper helicopters. In our groups, we decided on one way to change our helicopter designs and then timed how long it took for them to reach the floor when dropped from a height. The slowest falling helicopter was the winner!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day, as any missed days means missed learning.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall   95.5%

Well done to Class 409 for achieving 100% this week.

Just a reminder that school cannot authorise holidays in term time except in exceptional circumstances.

Early Years Funded Childcare Parental Consultation

We have been asked to promote the following survey:

https://arcg.is/1ayfze0

Every Local Authority has a duty to ensure there is enough childcare in their area to meet parental demand.  This consultation will provide vital information to ensure that Middlesbrough has sufficient childcare options in place to be able to deliver the additional funded hours of childcare from April 2024.

This consultation should be completed by parents/carers of children aged 2 years and under, expectant mothers, and those considering becoming a parent. The wraparound questions should be completed by parents/carers of primary aged children.

The survey is now live and scheduled to close at midnight on 5th April.
