WEEKLY BLOG – Friday 22nd March 2024

Weekly Update

We were very lucky to welcome Reverend Wild into school this week to undertake assemblies for both key stages about Easter.  She presented the Easter story in a thought-provoking way and shared the importance of this important festival.

Thank you for all the support on Red Nose Day; we raised an amazing £420.20      which has been sent to Comic Relief. In another fundraising event, a group of Year 4 girls did extremely well by raising £94.15 for Cancer Research by selling homemade goods in school. A huge well done for your initiative and effort.

A group of Key Stage 2 children represented the school in a Panathlon Challenge with other schools and were delighted with their achievements. The children were so proud of their medals, and rightly so! Y2 also enjoyed an afternoon of athletics festival at Whinney Banks today. Every child from Y2 to Y6 has now had the opportunity to represent the school at a PE event

We have loved seeing all the decorated eggs in school today; well done to all the winners from each year group and everyone who took part.

We hope you all have a relaxing Easter break and enjoy those yummy chocolate treats! We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 8th April.

Class Round-Up

Enjoy finding out what our Upper Key Stage Two team have been doing in their learning…

Year 5

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed their Art unit of Lino Printing. They showed great resilience and patience when completing the Lino cutting and took their time to print some fantastic final pieces. The children are incredibly proud of their work and look forward to reviewing it.

Year 6

Last week we took part in some exciting science activities as part of British Science Week.

We explored ‘Time’ and looked at whether our reaction times improved with practise.
As part of our science topic – Evolution and Inheritance – we participated in a webinar on fossils.  The children learned lots of interesting facts from the STEM ambassador, some of which really surprised them.

Did you know that a fossilised poo is called a coprolite?  The largest ever recorded was found in 1972 beneath the site of what was to become the branch of Lloyds Bank in York and may be the largest example of fossilised human faeces ever found, measuring an unbelievable 20 centimetres long and 5 centimetres wide!

Attendance Matters

It is so important that we see your children in school every day, as any missed days means missed learning.

Here are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall  95%

Well done to Class 103 for achieving 100% this week!

Just a reminder that school cannot authorise holidays in term time except in exceptional circumstances.

This consultation should be completed by parents/carers of children aged 2 years and under, expectant mothers, and those considering becoming a parent. The wraparound questions should be completed by parents/carers of primary aged children.
