Weekly Update
What an exciting week we have had!
Two fantastic trips with Reception having a fun filled day at Big Sheep, Little Cow and Year Three experiencing a roman fort with their visit to Segedunum to begin their history unit on The Romans. Both year groups came back with some great memories.
Year Three and Year Four also experienced some Music Workshops from the Tees Valley Music Service. The theme of Harry Potter was a great hit with Year Four and The Romans was the theme for Year Three.
Mr Jackson had some very successful events this week with the Year 2 and 4 Athletics seeing both year groups winning their competitions and lots of medals being won at the Year 5/6 Athletics at the Sports Village on Tuesday. A group of Year Six had a successful day at their PE Festival on Wednesday and a trip to Harrogate for the North Yorkshire Girls Cricket finals as well as the TLLT PE Festival ended a fantastic week! We are so proud of the Y4 Girls Cricket team who won the North Yorkshire finals and progress to the Yorkshire finals in York in a couple of weeks.
On Wednesday, the Year Six children enjoyed a very informative Headstart Transition Workshop which was extremely supportive as they look towards the next stage of their education.
The week ended with our Chocolate Non-Uniform Day – thank you so much for all your kind donations which will be put to good use at our Summer Fayre on Wednesday 1st July! We look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have a lovely weekend.
Class Round Up
Read on to find out what some of our classes have been doing in their learning:
Year 3
Earlier this week, Year 3 visited Segedunum in Wallsend, the most excavated fort on Hadrian’s Wall. We had a fantastic day learning all about the Roman fort; training and marching like Roman soldiers; handling replica artefacts; exploring a section of Hadrian’s Wall and even having our own mini-battle between the Romans and Celts!
Our first workshop was all about learning how to be a Roman soldier. We pretended to be new recruits in the Roman Army, arriving at Segedunum for our training. We learnt to march and drill for battle and attend a kit training session. Mrs. Gallant and Miss. Stobbs did a wonderful job of dressing in all of the armour, even being equipped with weapons! We were then split into 3 groups: learning how to train and fight; checking everything we knew about the kit by handling it; and finally, memorising the oath – ready for the arrival of Legate Marcus Caelius, Roman Commander-in-Chief.
Year 3 did such a fantastic job that we all passed our Roman training and were awarded special certificates. Great job!
In our second workshop, we participated in a Roman life learning tour where we explored the fort and discovered what life was like inside the fort gates nearly 2.000 years ago!
Here are some of our favourite moments and thoughts about the day:
Freddie: Yesterday, on our trip to Segedunum, my favourite part was going to the top of the replica Hadrian’s Wall and throwing Roman rocks (plastic balls) at the other team.
Connie: I enjoyed it when we tried on the helmets, weapons and shields. It was great fun!
Roman: My favourite part was trying on the Roman clothes.
Jacob: I learned about training in the Roman fort and wearing clothes in Segedunum.
Mia: My favourite part of the trip was when we could climb up the replica Hadrian’s Wall and we got to throw the little colourful balls. I also enjoyed wearing the Roman helmets and leather shoes.
Phoebe: I enjoyed the activities, learning how to be a Roman soldier and when Miss Stobbs dressed up as one!
Greyson: I liked it when the Romans were standing on the replica of Hadrian’s Wall and were throwing fake Roman weapon balls and the Celts were trying to dodge them!
Frances: My favourite part was when we learned how to fight like Roman soldiers and tried on the armour that they wore.
A fantastic day had by all and a wonderful start to our new unit of learning in History!

Year 4
Year 4 Have Been Busy This Week!
Year 4 have enjoyed another fantastic week packed with learning, creativity and sporting success.
In History, we explored how Middlesbrough changed during the 19th century and learned about the important roles played by Joseph Pease, Henry Bolckow and John Vaughan. The children created timelines and discovered how the railway, docks and iron industry helped transform Middlesbrough into a thriving industrial town.
We also took part in a magical Harry Potter Music Workshop, where the children enjoyed exploring music inspired by the wizarding world.
To top it all off, Year 4 represented the school brilliantly at several sporting events and we are especially proud of our Cricket Champions! The children showed excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout.
Well done, Year 4 – another week full of fantastic achievements

Attendance
It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.
There are our attendance figures for this week:
