Weekly Update
Despite the rather wet week, we have fitted a lot into our first week back. On Wednesday, Year 6 took part in a Maya Workshops to introduce their new History unit. On Thursday, Year 5 had Mike Edwards, a local author and poet, in to lead a Poetry Slam event; they performed their poems to Year 4 who were a fantastic audience. Year 3 and Year 4 both completed their Design and Technology units, making unique keepsake boxes and delicious pizzas respectively.
The next few weeks are full of events too, so please look at the list below to see what we have got coming up this half term.
Our Year 4 children have been working hard practising their times tables for their Multiplication Tables Check and our Year 1 children have been preparing for their Phonics Screening Check. We wish them all good luck next week when they undertake the Checks.
Earlier in the week, Mrs Prince sent out a link to our most recent parent/carer questionnaire; many thanks to everyone who has completed it already. If you would like to share your views, the survey is open until the 15th June.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have a lovely weekend.
Class Round Up
Read on to find out what some of our classes have been doing in their learning:
Year 5
Poetry Slam
All of Year 5 took part in a Poetry Slam yesterday. We worked alongside published local poet Mike Edwards to write poems around a theme. We collaborated well as teams and then developed and performed our poems to an audience. Congratulations to the winning teams who will be representing Acklam Whin at the Town Hall later in June. How exciting!

Writing
Before half term, Year 5 wrote some narratives linked to the video ‘Soar’. They worked so hard on their compositions, and they were produced to a very high standard. Well done, Year 5!

Geography
In the week before half-term, Year 5 completed their fieldwork for Geography. We enjoyed a walk around the local area, following our pre-planned route on an OS map and identifying all the recreational land use. Thank you to all our families who completed the questionnaire that the children sent out: we used your thoughts and ideas to consider how Acklam could be improved in the future.

Art
We had a very productive day making our coil clay bowls. It took lots of perseverance and skill to make the coils, following our designs, and building our bowls. We can’t wait to paint them and see our finished products.
Outdoor Classroom
A gorgeous afternoon in the Outdoor Classroom, searching for living things, building a shelter for their miniature people that protected them from the sun and rain and having a Smores treat to finish off the day.

Attendance
It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.
There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall 93.1%
A big well done to our Nursery 30 hours children for getting 100% as well as Class RO1, Class 206 , Class 308 , Class 307 and Class 511 who all got over 96%.
Let’s keep this up and aim for even more children getting over 96% this term.
Congratulations to our Full House Friday draw winners who were delighted with their prizes. A big thank you to Education Five for providing the prizes for the initiative.

Reminders
Reminders
- Please can we remind all children and parents that bikes and scooters should not be ridden on the school playground. Please jump off your vehicle and push it along to avoid any accidents.
- Please can we remind you that children should be wearing black school shoes with their uniform on non-PE days. On PE days, only black or white trainers should be worn with their PE kit.
- Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this really helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner, and we would encourage all parents to make sure that uniform is named please.
