Weekly Update

We are so proud of our Year 3 children who have completed two weeks of Swimming tuition at the Rainbow Leisure Centre. They have worked very hard to improve their swimming skills and have been really focused to achieve. Swimming is an important life skill which, we are sure, will support them throughout life.

Our Year 4 children had two fabulous days at the Teesmouth Centre to enhance their Rivers unit in Geography. As well as exploring the centre, they enjoyed a close-up view of the Transporter Bridge as well as fun activities on North Gare beach.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Nursery Stay and Play where lots of lovely planting took place to enhance the Outdoor Provision for the summer months.

We wish our Year 6 children the best of luck in their SATs next week. We know that they have worked very hard throughout their time at Acklam Whin, and we wish them every success.

Have a great weekend.

Class Round Up

Read on to find out what some of our classes have been doing in their learning:

Year 2

Phew! What a busy week!
On Wednesday, our Year 2 children had a fantastic time in their Minibeasts music workshop. They explored a range of percussion instruments, learned fun rhythms inspired by different minibeasts, and enjoyed singing together. The children joined in enthusiastically, shared their ideas, and made music as a team. Well done, Year 2, you all sounded great!
Today, we took learning outdoors to explore animal shelters in the Outdoor Classroom with Mr. Armstrong. After discussing how and why animals build homes, the children created their own shelters using sticks, grass, and rocks. We tested them with a watering can to check they stayed dry, and the excitement continued when the rain arrived—giving us the perfect chance to test our larger shelter by the fire pit!
To finish the week, we enjoyed Whin time, playing board games, making bracelets, building with Lego, and creating paper crafts—a lovely, calm end to a busy Friday!

Year 4

This week, Year 4 visited the Teesmouth Field Centre to learn more about the River Tees and discover the features of a river. We began the day by following the journey of the River Tees from its source at Cross Fell in the Pennines all the way to its mouth at North Gare. The children learnt about tributaries, meanders, erosion, oxbow lakes and waterfalls such as High Force and Low Force. They particularly enjoyed using actions to help remember the names of the waterfalls!

Later in the day, we visited the famous Tees Transporter Bridge, where the children spotted features along the river and learnt about the important role the bridge and river play in transport and trade. At North Gare beach, the children worked brilliantly in teams to build their own models of the River Tees using natural materials, recreating both physical and human features from source to mouth. We were extremely proud of the children’s enthusiasm, teamwork and excellent behaviour throughout the trip.

Attendance

It is so important that we see your children in school every day as any missed days means missed learning.

There are our attendance figures for this week:

Overall % 95.6%

A big well done to both Year 6 classes for getting 100% – a fantastic achievement – as well as Class 103, Class 104, Class 205, Class 307, Class 308, Class 410, Class 512 who all got over 96%.

Let’s keep this up and aim for even more children getting over 96% this term.

Well done to all the children who have got tickets in the draw for the  Full House Friday campaign.  The draw will take place on Friday 22nd May.

Reminders

Reminders

  • Please can we remind you that children should be wearing black school shoes with their uniform on non-PE days. On PE days, only black or white trainers should be worn with their PE kit.
  • Thank you to everyone who has named their child’s uniform; this really helps us to return any lost property to its rightful owner, and we would encourage all parents to make sure that uniform is named please.
